What We Believe

"What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us." - A.W. Tozer

Core Beliefs

The following are the core beliefs of CrossBridge Baptist Church based on the foundational truths taught in the bible. All of our teaching and ministry is rooted in and flows out of these biblical doctrines.

The scriptures

We believe the Holy Scriptures of the Old (39 Books) and New (27 Books) Testament to be the verbal, plenary, inspired word of God, the final authority for faith and practice, inerrant in the original writings, infallible and God-breathed.  We believe the Scriptures should be understood literally except where figurative language is plainly
evident.   (II Tim. 3:16-17; II Peter 1:20-21; Matthew 5:18; John 16:12-13).

the Godhead

We believe in one Triune God eternally existing; manifested in three personal distinctions known respectively as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, Who are co-eternal in being, co-identical in nature, and co-equal in power and glory, having the same attributes and perfections. We believe God is a spirit being Who is Creator and Sustainer of all things, and is sovereign and righteous in all His judgments.  (Genesis 1:1; Deuteronomy 6:4; Psalm 19:7-11; Mark 12:29; Luke 1:31-33; 1 Corinthians 8:6; Peter 1:2).

GOD THE FATHER
We believe that God the Father is the supreme authority, and has decreed what will ultimately come to pass. All who come to Him through faith in His Son have the privilege  of knowing Him as Father. (John 1:12; Ephesians 1:3-6; Galatians 3:26)

GOD THE SON
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, became man without ceasing to be God, having been conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary, in order that He might reveal God and redeem sinful man.  (Mt. 3:17; Lk. 1:35; Jn. 1:1-3, 14)
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ accomplished our redemption through His death on the cross as a representative sacrifice, and that our justification is made sure by His literal, physical resurrection from the dead.  (Rom. 3:24-25; Eph. 1:7; I Pet. 1:3-5, 2:24)
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ ascended to heaven and is now exalted at the right hand of God, where as our High Priest, He fulfills the ministries of Representative, Intercessor, and Advocate.  (Acts 1:9-11; Rom.8:34; Heb. 7:25, 9:24; I John 2:1-2)

GOD THE HOLY SPIRIT
We believe that the Holy Spirit is a Person who convicts the world of sin, righteousness, and of judgment; and that He is the Super-Natural Agent in regeneration, baptizing all born-again believers into the body of Christ, indwelling and sealing them unto the day of redemption.  (John 16:8-11; Rom. 8:9; I Cor. 12:12-14; Eph. 1:13-14).
We believe that He is the Divine Teacher who guides believers into all truth; and that it is the privilege and responsibility of all born-again believers to be filled with the Holy Spirit. (John 16:13; Ephesians 5:18; I John 2:20, 27)

creation

We believe in the literal interpretation of the Genesis account which teaches that the world and all that is in it was created in six days as the direct result of the spoken word of God. The first man, Adam, was an historical person.  God breathed into him and made him a living soul.  (Genesis 1 and 2; John 1:3; Colossians 1:16-17)

UNITY OF MANKIND
We believe mankind is one race, all commonly descending from Adam and Eve.

ESTABLISHMENT OF MARRIAGE
We believe that God established marriage between one man and one woman, and that all sexual activity outside the marital relationship is sin.

sin

We believe that man was created in the image and likeness of God in an innocent state; but that in Adam's sin the entire human race fell, inherited a sinful nature and became alienated from God, and that man is totally depraved and of himself utterly unable to remedy this lost condition.  (Genesis 1:26-27, 31; Romans 3:22-23; Ephesians 2:1-3, 12)

Salvation

We believe that salvation, which cannot be earned by good works, is the free gift of God brought to man by grace and received by personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, whose precious blood was shed on the cross for the forgiveness of our sins.  (John 1:12, 3:16; Ephesians 1:7, 2:8-10; I Peter 1:18-19).

ETERNAL SECURITY
We believe that all the redeemed, once saved, are kept by God's power and thus secure in Christ forever.  We believe that it is the privilege of believers to rejoice in this assurance of their salvation, being completely and eternally free from condemnation.  (John 3:16, 6:37- 40, 10:27-30; Romans 8:1; I Peter 1:4-5)

The Church

We believe that the universal church is made up of all those who have placed their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as personal Savior from sin from the day of Pentecost through the future Rapture of the church.  (Matthew 16:18; Acts 1:8, 2:1-13, 41-47, 15:14; Ephesians 1:22-23, 5:23-32; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18)
We believe that the visible church is a local assembly of baptized believers in Jesus Christ. In becoming a member, the believer wishes to voluntarily associate with other believers for the purpose of worship, fellowship, service, witnessing, faithful stewardship, and disciple-making. Encouragement toward righteous living and away from open, continued sin is both a necessity and a benefit of a loving body of believers.  (Matthew 28:18-20, Acts 2:41-42, 47; 1 Corinthians 1:1-2; Ephesians 4:15)
We believe that every individual is responsible to God alone in all matters of faith. We believe that every church is autonomous and must not yield to any influence contradictory to the teachings of the Scriptures.  (Acts 5:29; 1 Corinthians 3:11-15; Galatians 5:1)

satan

We believe that Satan is a fallen angel, the author of sin; that he is the open and declared enemy of God and Man; and that he shall be eternally punished in the Lake of Fire. A host of other angels followed Satan in his rebellion and now are fallen and are actively serving Satan today.  (Job 1:6-7; Isaiah 14:12-17; Matt. 4:2-11; Matt 25:41; Rev. 20:10)

future events

We believe in the "Blessed Hope", the personal imminent, pre-tribulation and pre-millennial coming of the Lord Jesus Christ for His redeemed ones (Rapture); and in His subsequent return to earth, with His saints, to establish His Millennial Kingdom.  (I Thessalonians 4:13-18; Rev. 19:11-16, 20:1-6)
We believe in the bodily resurrection of all men: the saved to eternal life, and the unsaved to judgment and everlasting punishment.  (Matt. 25:46; Luke 23:43; John 5:28-29, 11:25-26; II Cor. 5:8; I Thes. 4:13-18; Revelation 20:4-6, 12-15)
